US ambassador to China confirmed

Earlier this week Governor Jon Huntsman of Utah was confirmed as US ambassador to China, as reported by the Boston Globe. Gov. Huntsman, who speaks Mandarin and lived in Taiwan as a missionary, was for weeks expected to be confirmed easily, and his confirmation comes just before Congress takes its August recess. Gov. Huntsman now officially replaces Ambassador Clark T. Randt, Jr., at the residence of the US ambassador on Guanghua Road in the heart of Beijing's diplomatic quarters. Ambassador Randt, who was appointed by President Bush, is the longest-serving US ambassador to China.
