US Ambassador to China selected

The New York Times reports that President Obama has selected current Utah Governor Jon Huntsman Jr. to serve as the next US Ambassador to China. A devout Mormon who learned to speak Chinese as a missionary in Taiwan, Gov. Huntsman brings experience as a former ambassador to Singapore under the first Bush presidency and as a deputy trade ambassador under the second, experiences which combined with his Republican party affiliation suggest the Obama administration seeks "a bipartisan approach" in its relationship with China. Analysts also note that Gov. Huntsman has been viewed as a possible GOP contender in the next presidential election.
