Earlier this morning residents of Beijing were treated to a partial solar eclipse for a period of about two hours, according to the People's Daily. Widely covered by international media and dubbed the longest total solar eclipse of the century, it blocked out about 73% of the sun in Beijing--Shanghai, meanwhile, was treated to a 100% eclipse. Authorities warned residents of the darkening sky and dangers of looking at the eclipse with the naked eye or even through normal sunglasses; for those less adventurous, the eclipse was broadcast live on the internet and several television channels.
