National Day weather plans

Xinhua News reports that Beijing's meteorological department is at work on plans to disperse rain clouds for Chinese National Day this October 1. The weather modifications, which were reported to be widely used during the Olympic games last summer, are effective in the case of drizzle or mist but "can not work when there is lightning and downpour." According to the meteorological bureau, rain clouds are dispersed through the use of airplanes and rockets. While this may seem incredible at first, the techniques are credited by Chinese authorities as helping to relieve a large inland drought last year.
