IKEA to build Beijing megastore

July 27, 2009 | Posted by Chris

IKEA Group's Asia-Pacific president Ian Duffy today announced that IKEA will build its largest store outside of Sweden in Beijing, Xinhua News reports. The new building, which will commence construction next summer and open in 2012, will serve as IKEA's Asian flagship store, a move the company says reflects its optimism in the continued development of Beijing and China in general. The store will be located in the Beijing suburb of Daxing, which is south of the city's center. IKEA already has a successful presence in Beijing's Wangjing district, whose large blue and yellow structure dominates the skyline along the northeastern fourth ring road and whose spacious top-floor cafeteria is a popular spot for locals to try Western breakfast and dishes like spaghetti.
