IBM opens new center in Beijing

June 17, 2009 | Posted by Chris

IBM yesterday opened a new telecom solutions center in Beijing, reports Xinhua News. The project seeks to become "a platform to connect telecom carriers and service developers," and also includes an initiative to provide "free education, workshops, software and related services" to local companies. The opening of the new center comes as China's new 3G mobile service was launched earlier this year, and according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology there are 678 million cell phone users in China. Perhaps of note, IBM China is not to be confused with the Chinese PC maker Lenovo, which purchased IBM's PC division in 2005.
