Representatives of Beijing's subway authority said that beginning this week, the interval between trains on its line 2 will be reduced from 2.5 to 2 minutes, according to Xinhua News. Line 2, which loops around the city's center roughly where the old city wall used to be, last shortened its train interval in the lead up to last summer's Olympics. Line 1, which runs east-west and passes by Tian'anmen Square will have its train interval reduced to less than 2.5 minutes. There are presently 8 subway lines in Beijing with about 125 miles of track, and several new lines are scheduled to open in the next year or two.
