A Beijing University law professor has been assigned to teach in the Western province of Xinjiang in what may be a reaction to a difference in ideology, according to ABC News. It is reported He Weifang has "had frequent run-ins with university officials over his liberal views" and the reassignment may be related to his signing of a petition known as Charter '08, which is describes as "one of the bolder political statements to emerge from political critics" in China. Professor He nonetheless has been positive, saying, "I don't think it is a bad thing. It is quiet here. I get to read. I get to interact with fellow professors and students. It's a good thing."
