Beijing--Lhasa direct flights begin

Daily direct flights between Beijing and Tibet's capital, Lhasa, will commence later this month, China Hospitality News reports. The flights, which will begin on July 10, will make travel between the two capitals easier, and they come as a welcome improvement in transportation to travelers contemplating their next adventure. The new flights are not without controversy, though, because of questions of how increasing development will affect Tibetan cultural heritage--opponents cite a loss of Tibetan culture to Chinese influence, and supporters point to mutual benefits of economic advancement.
